Paul McCartney recently uncovered photographs he'd thought were lost – ones he took during The Beatles' first tour of America in 1964. The pictures – candid shots from the vantage point of newly-anointed superstars – are the basis of a new book, "1964: Eyes of the Storm," and an exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery. Correspondent Anthony Mason gets a private tour with McCartney, who talks about documenting the astonishing welcome that the "lads from Liverpool" received.

What an extraordinary experience the Beatles had. 60 years later these lads still put a smile on my face.

Not many people have the chance to take photo's like those, it's so cool seeing the POV of a Beatle!

Imagine rediscovering the film you took more than half a century ago and reliving the history that you yourself created! That is priceless!

Sir Paul is still so cool and humble. He was so down to Earth that he was taking pictures of everyone else around him. Not obsessed with himself and his own stardom.

Paul has been the most consistent in promoting the group…the way he captures the innocence, Hope and joy they experienced comes through with his work. Thank you Paul.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the impact of these photos and the meaning each one holds are indescribable.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" Paul. This was WONDERFUL ! I was 19 in 1964 when I moved to L.A. to break into showbusiness. I can tell you that what Paul describes what he went through is truth. I never attained the success that he or The Beatles achieved, but THIS is how it was when you first started out and were successful. You experience things you never thought possible. You're living a life so foreign to you that you're beyond happy, but still in shock. I am so happy and proud of what Paul has achieved in his life and am thrilled that he decided to share it with us. It was so long ago and some many roads have been taken. I'm just proud that I even experienced just a small part of that life and success. Thank you Paul. 💙

Unless you were alive at the time, unless you were in your teens, unless you didn’t live in a cave.. you couldn’t begin to understand the power they held over the masses!! We were all hooked under magical period of music, and it’s effect throughout the decades still has a place. The songs still leave a smile on the face and shine likes diamond’s in our memories of those glorious times!! That was
THE BEATLES!!

Thank you for airing this! My late husband Tim was a MASSIVE Beatles fan. He was born in '63, but was introduced to them by his brother who was 8 years his senior, so watching this brought up great memories
