Mitsubishi GTO: Biggest Ever Thailand Meet for very rare 90s JDM legend!
Показать описание
Thai owners of the Mitsubishi GTO (also known in other markets outside Japan as the 3000 GT) gathered together for a second ever meet, which took place at Chocolate Ville at Ram Intra on the outskirts of Bangkok, to share their passion for this famous name from the 90s, the heady days of high performance Japanese sportscars.
This meet, which took place on 21.03.2021, was the second owners’ event and came after an inaugural get together at a PTT Petrol Station in Bang Phli last September. That meet kicked things off and saw four cars turning up.
With momentum behind them from the buzz of the first meet, the owners hoped to break that record and add more new cars, although with probably little more than two dozen GTOs in Thailand and this technically sophisticated sportscar that's notorious for spending its life in the garage, it really would be a toss-up to see how many actually tuned up and if a new record could be set.
A very hot late Sunday afternoon in the suburbs would also test owners’ resolve to set a new record!
The GTO is a very rare car here despite the huge passion for high powered Japanese cars here that makes rival cars from that era, such as Toyota’s Supra and Nissan’s Z-cars, hugely popular and desired by Thai car enthusiasts. However, the GTO does have a hardcore of loyal followers ready to celebrate this dynamic and potent machine.
The GTO was assembled by Mitsubishi in Japan from 1990-2000 and powered by a powerful 3.0-litre twin turbo engine with nearly three hundred horsepower. With permanent four-wheel-drive and active aerodynamics (automatically adjusted front and rear spoilers) as well as electronically controlled suspension (which gave rise to the eye-catching profiled blister caps on the bonnet to allow for the mounting of electronic control units on the strut tops) the GTO was widely regarded as being a highly advanced sportscar at the time and some even referred to it as the “Japanese Ferrari”. Somewhat heavy for its day the GTO’s performance was however widely praised by specialist magazines at its launch.
