Months ago Schwerpunkt made a video on Eurasian steppes warfare that deals with the Golden Horde century by century. He's also plenty of Turkic-Mongol warfare videos

Popularly called The Golden Horde, the domains of the heirs of Jochi were not known by that name. The term ‘Golden Horde’ does not enter the sources until the sixteenth century, when Russian chroniclers referred to the domains as Zolotaia Orda, the Golden Camp or Palace.¹ During the Mongol era, they were known as the Kipchak Ulus or Khanate or the Jochid Ulus or Khanate. The Kipchak Khanate appellation came later and was a substitution for the Dasht-i Kipchak, or the Kipchak Steppes.

In a strictly historical sense, however, it is most frequently used for the Turkic (mainly Kipchak) tribes who constituted the bulk of the Mongol army that invaded Russia in the early thirteenth century.

Calling anything Golden Horde related from the early 14th century onwards "Mongol" is kinda ahistorical since the Mongol identity of the horde from aristocracy to subjects completely vanished for Turkic (Kipchak) after Ozbeg Khan's reign

Among modern Tatars, descendants from elite clans of the Golden Horde belong to haplogroup R1b1a1a-M73 (Akchurin et al. 2018).

Moreover they had Turkic origins, specially from the Merkit tribe.

I wonder the Mongols yelled, "For the Golden Horde" as they charged into Battle.

The Horde was gradually Turkified and lost its Mongol identity, while the descendants of Batu's original Mongol warriors constituted the upper class. Possibly 14th century

The Golden Horde was not a typical mongol empire but a Turkic empire, Jochi was usually a Merkit prince whose tribe were of Turkic origin and were actually Christian before the rise of Genghis Khan.

I have a request. Could you do a Cross examination of Folk Lore. Comparing the Medieval Grim Reaper, to the Angel of Death from the bible. Are they in theory the same Entity?

By that time the mogol war machine was no longer mongol but other ethnicities. The strong mongol horsemen are gone and unit cohesion are absent. Just like yuan dynasty watered down to han Chinese peasants soldiers

Always thought Berke was batu’s successor but makes sense if batu had his own son and was an adult 😅
