Researchers at the Institute for the Bio-Cultural Study of Religion (IBCSR) and at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC) are collaborating to make a 3D virtual reality (VR) simulation of an ancient neolithic town. But it's more than a simulation. It's a game, which can be used to learn things about the real people who built this civilization – 7000 years ago.

The fun part of all this is that all the software you need to create these virtual civilizations is free! Blender first; then UE5, then add Krita and Inkscape.

2:10 No way that picture is from 1963. I would say it is more likely from the 80's or even the 90's. The clothes are just too modern. People didn't wear clothes like that in 1963. No did they have hair styles like that.

I am just as amazed at this recreation as I was to see the one they’ve made of Pompeii.Truly phenomenal! And it gives us alive today so much more insight about how ancient peoples lived. … these are the people who are our predecessors, our forebears, our ancestors. We are all here today because these strong people made it through terrible odds.

The interior designs seem a little more Flintstones than historical

For many years scientists made assumptions on the appearance of dinosaurs. Now we know they had feathers and were probably very colorful. One wonders about the assumptions of archaeologists regarding these ruins. It's better than nothing, but probably a little like dinosaurs look without feathers (like chickens look without feathers.)

Fascinating. Shame it's in "modern Turkey" who refuse to let archaeologists in to continue their valuable work.

I want to try the virtual reality environment in this video for educational purposes. Is this possible and what should I do for it? Thank you.

The thing I've been waiting for since I've heard of Çatalhöyük many years ago. Is this project still under development? To what point of immersion would You like to bring it to (speaking of activities the player can undertake, environmental details, social interactions etc.)?

That was awesome! Thank you so much. I am a former permaculture designer and green builder. You have totally inspired me to one day want to build a re-creation of one of the homes.

great ideas...The leopard skinned people were probably domesticating those cows, bulls are never domesticated, ergo the running still goes on...So I think we are looking at a job description in those leopard skins.
