Raspberry Pi Web Server Tutorial

A Raspberry Pi web server is a great lightweight and affordable server for either the home of a small business. The Pi can handle a small amount of traffic making it great for a development server where you can learn web languages such as PHP.

In this Raspberry Pi Web Server tutorial I will take you through the steps for installing apache, PHP, MYSQL and also WordPress. Each of them are relatively easy steps so you shouldn’t have too much trouble but if you do please go to my website and leave me a comment.

Now as I mentioned above the web server on Raspberry Pi isn’t the fastest. This means that if you get a lot of traffic then it will be probably crash out and become irresponsive. That means whilst it is great for a home server or a development server it just won’t be able to do very well as a public server.

In my set up apache looks to /var/www/html/index.html (rather than /var/www/index.html) so look out for that.

great tutorial thanks! To save others trouble remember to run "sudo update apt-get" beforehand to ensure a flawless install. To give permissions for file transfer, ie FTP "sudo chown -R pi /var/www"

Hello. Thanks for tutorial. I’ve followed each step untill 2:46. then I couldn’t start web browser, or it would just crash. Tried with reboot, but then I got problems. Rasbian seems to start ok..but at the end of booting I get only black screen with blinking cursor on top left. When I type rasbian IP on another computer I see that apache is working well, even from If I try to acces from mobile phone that is not connected to my router... Where did I go wrong? and how to fix it?

If I want to control and read data from the pi via a flask webserver over the internet, would I deploy my flask webserver to the cloud and have the cloud retrieve data and control the pi via mqtt?

i believe the latest pi web server changed and they stated that to replace the file are var/www/html/index.html.. is it same way for the php? i stuck at when comes to ip/example.php the requested url was not found on the server..

Hi Gus,

The Word Press site works, but I cannot do any customization except color changes and my "pages" has a lot of what appears to be config data at the top of each page. I did the sudo chown -R... from within the /var/www/html file, but still the same, although it appears I can get closer, but not quite, load pix into the Word Press pages. TNX for advice.

has a command or step changed with time, I cant get PHP running properly. I tried to display time and I get a 404 error, I went through the rest and tried to get wordpress running, everything looks like it is installing correctly but I get the HTML that I created at the beginning. its like PHP is not running
