Patients suspected of having a genetic eye disorder often have blood samples taken for genetic testing. Here, Dr Mariya Moosajee, a consultant ophthalmologist in Moorfields Eye Hospital and Associate Professor at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology explains the steps involved in finding mutations (spelling errors) in a patient's DNA that might cause a disease. By identifying the spelling error(s), it could also help researchers in developing new treatment for patients.
