I had a hard time watching this review. It's not because I disagree with you, Moviebob. I am not burning you to a crisp as I defend a film from any critic and criticism, and demand that you MUST give this film the absolute perfect rating.

What made this review so hard to watch was HOW THE BACKGROUND KEEPS FLICKERING. The MB's keep moving up and down (as well as many of your inserts like question marks). This has been a problem with your new set of reviews (and "In Bob we Trust") but this review really takes the cake. I want to hear your unique form of introspection on the art form of film, but I don't want my eyes to bleed while doing so.

PLEASE, if you ever do anything in life for me in particularly, just please make it so the background is fixed and doesn't just bump and down all day.

The part that almost made me laugh out loud, aside from the ending scene which really did make me laugh, was when Kylo Ren takes off his mask for the first time and we realize he's just an uber-Star Wars fanboy, an obvious homage to the same. Its quite perfect.

I think what makes all the beats of this story work is the same thing that makes the original trilogy work. The force brings people together. It brings FAMILY together. You can try all you want to cut ties to your past, to the people who love you, but sooner or later, the force will have its way and "force" you into the same room together, and at that point, anything can happen. It's what tied the original trilogy together, and it's what holds this movie together. It's not just the newX-Wings and Fighters, or the Falcon, or the original actors returning that make it feel like Star Wars. It has the SPIRIT of Star Wars for this one simple reason, and it's a damn good movie.

I wasn't expecting the moon with this one. just a fun, competent film that doesn't shit all over the original trilogy and it sounds like we'll be getting that in spades.

That's kinda what I like about Abbrams. Nothing he's ever done is what anyone would call a masterwork, but it's all highly entertaining and he holds a reverence for sourse material that few film makers can weave into their work and make it feel natural without pandering.

I'll look forward to this movie in five years, when I'll be attending the 7-9 marathon at the local cinema.

I'm tired of trilogies, I'd rather consume the story as a whole later than having it drip fed to me over the years, thank you.

This review probably does the best job of being both spot-on and concise out of all the others I've seen so far (including Red Letter Media's, even). I'd say it's the overall story that's the movie's weak point whereas the actual dialogue is pretty consistently great, but even so, you really captured the important ins and outs even without talking spoilers. Seriously great work.

I love bob but I was almost sure he would smash it just because of his previous bias against Abrams. If he admits defeat then it must be pretty good. Well done bob and well done star wars.
