Travel video about destination Moskva in Russia.
Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe. Both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. It has witnessed much change and has become a prosperous city and one of contrast and the superlative, of millionaires and also the very poor. Vasiliya Blazhennovo Khram, Basilius Cathedral, is one of the main landmarks of the Russian metropolis and was built at the command of Moscow sovereign, Ivan The Fourth, also known as Ivan The Terrible, Russia’s first Tsar. The cathedral is representative of Moscow’s architecture with red brick monuments and an accumulation of onion-shaped towers. The Kremlin extends beyond a red wall and various towers that date back to the fifteenth century. Since time immemorial it has been the seat of both tsars and bishops and in front of its walls is Red Square that was once used as a marketplace and also a place of execution. Here the death penalty was declared and immediately carried out. Arbatskaya is a city district west of the Kremlin. In the fifteenth century, the craftsmen and servants of the Tsar lived there and then followed artists, intellectuals and aristocrats. In 1935 the Metro was inaugurated and had thirteen stations. Today there are more than a hundred located along two hundred and sixty kilometres of rail, used by millions each and every day. The Moscow Underground is fast, cheap and quite splendid. Its stations are veritable works of art! When the Tsar’s empire vanished, the realm of the Communist rulers was torn apart. But the mega metropolis of Moscow managed to survive. A restless and powerful city of fantastic culture and truly dramatic history.

It was nice that you showed a brief clip of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier where remains of unknown soldiers from the 1941 Battle of Moscow are interred. This is the Alexander Gardens side of the Kremlin Walls. Monuments to "Hero Cities" are here also. However it isn't where the remains of notables are buried. The Kremlin Wall Necropolis is back on Red Square, offset behind the Lenin Mausoleum.

At 11:20 is the Храм Христа Спасителя, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. After destruction of the original a large swimming pool was built on the site. We're not sure about foreign corporate donations as millions of ordinary Russians donated money for reconstruction in the 1990s.

Moscow is amazing, especially the metro and the red square. There is unique architecture and the churches are very impressive!! I visited Moscow when the communism was ruling the country and it was very beautiful. It was so romantic and like living in other century, with very few cars, and with no homeless. Now is still very beautiful, but with the difference that there to much cars, and as the video clip says, the city of contrasts.

Please don't be offended as we like the video, but the shopping centre on Red Square across from the Kremlin is not "gum" as in chewing gum. The correct sound is "ghoom" as the Cyrillic Y in ГYM is not a U as in humour but an "ooh" as in the word Sue.  We should also mention that the other church on Red Square is not the Mother of Kazan church as it is a Cathedral and named the Cathedral of Our Lady (Virgin) of Kazan which refers to a specific icon, a copy of which can be seen above the main entrance. Locals call it the Kazan Cathedral.

The observation platform you reference at 17:41 as Sperling Mountains is correctly known as Sparrow Hills. Behind this observation platform is the main campus of Moscow State University. Regarding the Danilov monastery at 20:10 in the video, it was not returned to the church on the 100th anniversary as the monastery has been around since the late 13th century. As to "100 years anniversary" perhaps you meant to reference the Danilov bells which were returned to Russia from Harvard around the 100 year anniversary of the founding of Harvard's business school where the bells had hung since being transferred from Russia in the 1930s?

23:15 Sergiev Posad is one of the crown jewels of what is known as the "Golden Ring" area, northeast of Moscow. 13 of these cities are considered extra important although that number can be quickly doubled or even more with towns and villages of historic importance, some of them founded before Russia was a nation.

Moscow is a city of contrasts, but this does not mean that there are VERY POOR.... What in your understanding is VERY POOR? In my personally - those who live under a bridge and eating out of garbage cans, such at us in Russia very little! But more and more in the USA! Moscow is not for the poor, certainly. There go all to earn. Although the homeless, no doubt there are more of them than in other cities, but these antisocial elements is much less than in other countries.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church is not the "Patriarch of Pimen." The head of the Russian Orthodox Church is the "Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia." Pimen was just the name of one of the Patriarchs, his term being from early 1971 to his death in May 1990.
