Ruling party PPP leader calls for swift suspension of Pres. Yoon's duty ahead of impeachment vote

Ahead of the impeachment vote against President Yoon Suk Yeol on Saturday, the ruling People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon has called for the president to be suspended from his duties as soon as possible, due to the circumstances surrounding his martial law order.

"Yesterday, I said I would work to prevent the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol to avoid unnecessary harm to the public and supporters. However, given the new facts that have come to light, I now believe it is crucial to swiftly suspend President Yoon from his duties to protect the country and its people."

Han's remarks came Friday morning during an emergency meeting of the PPP's Supreme Council.
He claimed that Yoon planned to arrest key politicians on charges of "anti-state activities" and intended to detain them in a facility in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do Province.
