A/C Rest is for after a little drive, just over a 30 minute drive. You are then able to use the heat from the engine to keep the air conditioning running to keep it cool or warm in the car.

A/C Rest
When engine is on, this is the same as the regular A/C switch.
When engine is off, it switch on the residual heating mode of the car without turning the engine on.

REST button is for the winter. When you stop the car push the rest before you get out and the heater fan stays on low and the water pump in the engine turns round slowly as well. It gets the car warm for 30 minutes for short stops.

The rest button on the AC is for when you are parked up, say on a school run and if it's really cold like it is here in Ireland, it will keep u warm or in summer, cool, when the car is switched off...the air con or and heater's will work for up to 20 minute's with out using up the batteries life....

A/C REST ....This is a feature that utilises the residual heat in the engine cooling system to keep the cabin interior warm after the (hot) engine is switched off..., with the engine 'off', press the 'rest' button and the heater will keep the interier warm for about half an hour after which it will switch off when either the coolent temp has dropped below a certain temperature, or, if the battery voltage drops below a pre-set level.
It will function even if the keys are removed from the ignition.

Loving your reviews! I hope when Mercedes launches this in India this year, they don't get as greedy as Audi and BMW did with the Q2 and 2 series! Overall, the new GLA looks like an evolved package.

I’ve had a few ML’s SLK, and the last gen GLA.
‘Rest’ in the Aircon means you can turn the car off and push this and it pumps warm air from the engine into the cabin while parked to keep the interior warm in winter.

Simply put, the REST button in your car can be pressed when the engine is no longer running and the heating has switched off. The REST button enables residual heat from the engine and cooling system to be blown into the cabin to continue to heat the interior of the car.

A/C rest will keep the last climate temperature set when the car is turned off for about 30mins. Need to press the button before turning the engine off though.

AC/REST is used to funnel varm air into the car when you shut off the engine. Nice in winter if you want to keep the car warm running short errands.
