3 piece wheels are the best. Basically a lifetime purchase because you can change the lip and the barrel and you're set. Even if you somehow manage to damage the face, you can still recover it at least once, and they look good too.A friend also called them eco rims, what with all the reusability factors involved.

Really enjoying the technical videos, you do a great job explaining the ins and outs of these jobs.

Thanks so much Benny! I've been too scared to split my Simmons V5's for paint but you've made it seem super simple. Thanks again!

quick tip from someone who fits tyres every day
wire wheel on a drill, whilst the wheel is clamped on the tyre machine, run it around the lip where the tyre bead sits using the machine to spin the wheel ;)

Thanks Benny, got an old set of 14" 3 piece wheels for my 240z I want to repaint the centres and restore. I am hoping they are not welded together.

Another great episode. It's basically common sense with a bit of necessary tech info when putting back together. For $150 Repco sell a portable tyre changer which is all manually done. So that makes this job a possibility to be done at home. Having watched this I would not hesitate in doing this at home. Always look forward to seeing these videos.

Nice work and very informative. I've always been afraid that dismantling these wheels would cause them to warp or simply be difficult to balance. I would have liked to see tips on polishing it up while it was disassembled. Such a pain to polish around those wheel bolts!

Cool video, I've had a few sets of BBS 3 piece wheels LM and RM.

Thanks for the info, I have a 3 piece wheel on the front of my sidecar outfit that has one bent rim half causing a lot of difficulty when balancing. It doesn't have a barrel and lip like your sample, both rim halves are the same dimension, but one side has been hit hard at some stage in its life. It's a polished rim which could do with some TLC appearance wise anyway which is virtually impossible while its assembled with both brake discs fitted also.

The rear one needs resealing at least also.

These are custom rims to allow me to fit 15" car tyres instead of the original 18" front and 17" rear bike tyres. With the price of motorcycle tyres and their quite short life, the 15" wheels cut tyre costs considerably.

This couldnt have come at a better time. Currently rebuilding a set of volk mesh and I couldnt find the torque spec anywhere as there 3/8's hardware. Cheers for the info 👍

I had the same concern where the face mounts being painted as well. Ive paint stripped it now. Should I spray it all like factory or leave the mounting face bare?
