indie games that butter my biscuits

Halloween is fast approaching next week, and lots of new spooky games are coming out of the woodwork, but there’s also a new roguelite coming up from Team17 that looks promising, and even a life sim focused on fishing the Canadian shore. And, I want to highlight a game that’s been announced without a definitive release date, but I think it should be on everyone’s radar.

The Unliving seems to have a lot of potential. Team17 hardly go wrong with the games they publish. I really like the look of Grotto. The visual style is neat and it seems to have some great choices to influence how the story goes. Yolked looks like it’ll be so daft yet funny as well. Okinawa Rush also looks rather interesting and the coop aspect makes it look great for those who play together. Sunshine Manor is another one that feels like it has a lot of potential, even if horror games don’t really vibe with me a lot of the time. Moonglow Bay looks absolutely lovely and I really hope it gets a release on Switch at some point, as unlikely as that is. It’s so great to see you featuring Haunted Chocolatier. It looks and seems absolutely wonderful from what we’ve seen of it and I’ll be making sure to keep up with news about it. This was a great selection of indies. Thanks for the video.

The new ConcernedApe game looks really good! Can't wait to hear some more news about it.

Cody, are you planning on reviewing Moonglow Bay? I'd love to hear your thoughts before I inevitably buy it!

A chocolate river would probably look bad (Like sewage or something) with the 8/16-bit graphics, but man would it be fun if there was a normal river with a tunnel like the minecarts in Stardew, where the first time you ride the tunnel, you get some kaleidoscope swirly stuff. Avoiding the strobe lights to avoid any epileptic concerns, just some nice mellow kaleidoscope.

I’ll definitely be picking up Grotto and Moonglow Bay. They are more to my liking than the other ones. I’m a sucker for voxel-style games 😁

Most likely to get played and finished: The Unliving - similar to the first two game in the Overlord series, a guilty pleasure of mine back when even major studies took a chance with risky games. As that franchise is dead now, this might fill up the void.

Most likely to get all its dialogues skipped: Grotto - VNs are at the bottom of my to-play list unless they include an even mix of gameplay vs. reading. The last one I enjoyed was Paradise Killer.

Most likely to get banned by PETA: Yolked - eggs are living things too!

Most likely to break my gamepad: Okinawa Rush - pixel art plus button mashing wins every time.

Most likely to have no sunshine at all: Sunshine Manor - Played Lamentum recently that looks/plays very similar, so I don't think I would enjoy it as much.

Most likely to get lost in it for 20 hours without doing anything: Moonglow Bay - you know what I mean!

Most likely to never leave early access: Haunted Chocolatier :)
