Compare - DeArmond 2000 and TV Jones classic pickup´s

I replaced the stock pickups in my Gretsch G5129 with TVJ´s.

I did a blind test and would check the vid when I heard the preferable tone. I looked 3 diff times and all three were variations of the TVJ. Thicker and warmer over all to my ears. Found the ones that will be going into my Rat Rod, thank you!

It’s a rare and precious thing to have one of these A/Bs done so well, with the whole palette of musical applications. It really made me understand what to go for… i.e: I’ll neew two Gretsch guitars :P

Both sounds lovely but I still like the DAs better. They feel more 3-diemnsional and they change a lot depending on how hard you pluck them.

I was playing two of those songs in 1966 wow thanks fo9r the reminder of how they are done as I welll kinda forgot..I played these songs on my 64 huild starfire and if it sounded like this...I would not have sold it!

My unsolicited opinion: DeArmond all the way. There's a sterile/dry quality to those TVJs in that guitar, to me. One of the reasons why I think the Electromatic g5129 is so special is those pickups. Your videos in particular sold me on that guitar with the DeArmonds, and I've got one stored away for my son at home. Your playing is great, as always.

DeArmond, definitely, for me - more lively - more Gretsch... On the other hand, TV Jones classics sound more mellow for your style of music/playing, so if you like that sound more, than they are better; for you, of course.

Not that you were necessarily going for his tone here, but Cliff Gallup (original guitarist with Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps) used flatwound strings with his Duo Jet with Dynasonics. I remember hearing a guitarist playing on tv and immediately wondered why he sounded so much like Cliff, then I saw that he was playing with the same set-up. I'm pretty sure he had flatwounds too!

The DeArmonds sound amazing! So i am new to figuring out what pickups to put in my guitar, and when i look at the tvjones site, i see a lot of models that say DeArmond mount for a different type like Powertron, Thundertron, etc. What pickups exactly were used here? Thanks!

Very good Video ! Have you tried the pickups Gretsch Dynasonic and what do you think in comparison to the Dearmond ? Thanks ... in fact, my idea is to buy a Big Tone Harley Benton and install Dynasonic. But is it a good idea ??? ...the Dynasonic are expensive I find.
