A very rare flying display of the Messerschmitt ME-262 at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2023.

The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed Schwalbe in fighter versions, or Sturmvogel in fighter-bomber versions, is a fighter aircraft and fighter-bomber that was designed and produced by the German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt. It was the world's first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft.

First time a Me-262 has flown over the UK since WW2.
(Yes it's a replica but still awesome)

That's an astonishing effort to put this replica into the air.

Even though it is a replica it was a fantastic display I went to RIAT on Sunday definitely one of the highlights of the show for me.

There were 5 Me262's built as replicas 4 flying with GE engines and one static. There was an original restoration done by Paul Allens Flying heritage Museum with remanufactured and updated original engines and it was taxied but Paul died before it ever flew, never heard if it ever flew. BUT the entire Museum was sold to a Walton and is moving to Arkansaw No recent word on it. Pauls museum was net door to the me262 project at Paine Field Everett wash, site of Boeing wide body factory !!

The problem with the original 262 was the jet turbine blades and fatigue…..literally the engine lasted 3 flights…. How they do the engine now????

Finally! A German terror-plane is welcomed in the UK. Can friendship be described better?
