Forging a small ball peen hammer - tool making - part 1

I have a small somewhat decorative ball peen hammer to make. This hammer will be made from 3" of 1" square 4140. There are several ways to make the eye while forging s hammer. For this hammer I will punch with a round punch and then forge the eye oval.

A ball peen around that size is my favourite hammer for finishing most of my smaller work.

Just a curious question. I have watch Tim at Big Dog Forge use his power hammer to punch a oval eye in a hammer. It seems like a better way to make the eye in the hammer. Why not use a power hammer to punch a eye, in the steel? It would be less work for your.

Where do you get your S7 from? I cannot find it anywhere close to me.
