'Oceania 'Tis for Thee' - National Anthem of Oceania

Oceania is the fictitious nation in which Winston Smith lives, in the dystopian world of "1984". The book has garnered attention in recent years as some say it holds many resemblances to today's world, and the author of the book himself has said that our world is headed in the direction of 1984.

1984 is honestly such a great dystopia that it’s actually intimidating, like as a writer how could anyone measure up.

Oceania is at war with Eurasia. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia. A few moments later: Oceania is at war with East Asia. Infact, Oceania has always been at war with East Asia.

It seems my theory is true:

The more dystopian the society, the more majestic and beautiful the anthem is.

"The war is not meant to be won; it is meant to be continuous. The war is waged by the ruling class against its own subjects. The final goal is not victory over Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very fabric of society intact."

Their anthem is so beautiful yet hauntingly eerie at the same time. Perfect epitome for a dystopia like Oceania

They might be dystopian country...

But they know, how to make a really good anthem.

What I find interesting about this fictional anthem is how when you look at the actual words, its complete nothing-speak (even relative to other anthems) backed up by soaring music that does all the actual work of conveying emotion.
No references to any moments of history, any battles, any defining moments for "the revolution". No reference to any values or ideas of any kind that might indicate anything about the supposed revolution such as its enemies, its leaders, its goals, anything. The only reference to "the people" is to note how they will keep the society going.
Also contradictions immediately at the start. An anthem for a peaceful nation that is constantly at war and always has been, which then immediately promises to keep fighting.
More than half the anthem is devoted to repeating that every thought and action should be for supporting the state.

It's a completely hollow and meaningless anthem, perfectly suited for a society/state that has no ideological commitments and acts only to sustain its own existence.

Oceania's borders in africa should have changed mid-song for maximum realism.

I've always been impressed how this song seems to combine the feel of a good communist anthem (the East German one in particular) with that of an Anglican hymn. One of the most beautiful anthems and it's for a country that doesn't exist.

When in a dystopia, a person thinks they are in a utopia
