ZWO 8 Position Electronic Filter Wheel

This is my new ZWO 8-position electronic filter Wheel (EFW). This filter wheel supports the 1.25"/31mm size. I bought this because I was tired of having to swap out broadband and narrowband filters when I used the 5 position filter wheel. An EFW is a must for astrophotography.

Yes that's a nice feature to have all your narrow bands and your Broadband filters all in one wheel and using existing drivers.

Hey Chuck I really struggled with those unmounted filters in the ZWO and the tiny little screws to hold them in drove me nuts. Its a lot easier with a magnetic screwdriver. You cant just put them in through the hole as I'm sure you found out as they need to be screwed in place with 3 screws. But its worth saying there is a front and a back to the filters in the ZWO range and getting them wrong can cause halos. Just thought people might know on the ZWO product page of the filters Narrowband and LRGB they give tips on the same page as the technical specs.

I was wondering if you could share your phd2 settings some time in one of your videos. Maybe go through the tabs, not necessary explain why you chose the settings, but to just show them. Thanks

Thanks! Do you still like it? How are the RGB filters? I'm in a red zone using a light pollution filter and was wondering if the RGB filters of zwo would cancel out the sodium city lighting :-)

Hi Chuck, This is an old video but I know you are shooting with your nice new RASA 8 now. Have you ever though about using the EFW Mini on the RASA? That would be awesome!!!

Hey Chuck, nice video again, a question though, aren't 1, 25" filters to small for your camera ?? I guess you have a slight vignetting ?

Hey, Chuck, did you ever figure out what those two thumbscrews were for? I just bought a 7 position EFW and it came with them too. But I can't, for the life of me, figure out where they go or what they would do. LOL It didn't help that no instructions came with the EFW. Oh well.

Chuck, on the website, it said this filter wheel only takes Baader, Astrodon and ZWO filters. How are you using Astronomik filters on this one. Are these filters mounted or unmounted

ZWO offers a 7 position filter wheel with 36mm filters instead of the 8 position wheel with 31mm filters Chuck. Is there an advantage to the 8 position wheel in your opinion? Do the 31mm filters completely cover any aspects of the ZWO sensor?

Hello Chuck,

Was trying to decide what type of filter wheel to buy so I thought I would give this ZWO a try. My SX FW has had it, I think. Just got it in the mail recently. However, for the last three days I have been trying to find the drivers online without success. The ZWO website is compromised or corrupted or something. Any ideas of how I could find the correct drivers? Any help would be much appreciated.
