This Jet Terrified the West: The MiG-25 Foxbat...

In the late 1950s, Soviet intelligence learned that the Americans were developing a new state-of the art supersonic bomber that could render the entire Soviet Air Force and air defense system virtually obsolete. The nuclear-armed North American XB-70 Valkyrie would fly more than three times the speed of sound and at an altitude of 75,000 feet. Only a handful of the XB-70’s would be needed to overwhelm any target.

The Soviets would have just a few short years to respond to the threat by designing a new interceptor that could match the incredible performance of America’s XB-70 aircraft. But to guard the enormous air space of the Soviet Union, the interceptor would have to be quickly engineered and mass produced by the hundreds.

The result would be the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25, an interceptor engineered to do one thing; climb, catch and bring down the American bomber. But the aircraft would end up as one of the most misunderstood jets of the Cold War.

Thanks for watching!

The Mig 25 can only go mach 2.8 for less than a minute. It can’t sustain that speed like the SR-71 could sustain Mach 3.3

The Mig 25 could never catch up to the Sr-71 as it was faster for much longer and by the time the Mig-25 gained altitude, the SR-71 would be long gone

1. Any westerner with a smart phone can pull up the specs of a MiG 25 while sitting on their couch

2. It was about 400mph slower than the SR-71 it was built to intercept. (Not the XB-70)

It was incapable of catching, or shooting down the SR71. Had the YF12 been built, it was more than capable of downing the Mig

Mig-25 was a PAPER TIGER. Mach3 of MIG-25 was a total waste of pilot and money.

MIG 25 Foxbat is a flying piece of JUNK and a fast one too.

Not a fighter, every time it was flown at top speed both Tumansky engines were wrecked. Very powerful radar. Pilots were forbidden from turning radar on on the ground because it would kill animals at a distance

Why the hell did you have to steel Mustards incredibly hard Work! You didn’t even credit him at all, not to mention that you basically stole his entire video script.

150 hour engine life
Still more reliable than a range rover

SR-71 and Mig-25 belong to the same era and the black bird flew faster and higher

And then we got our hands on one and realized it was a POS

It's not a mystery. A Soviet pilot defected and landed in Japan. Naturally, we tore it apart to find out how it ticked. They were surprised to find that it was assembled rather crudely with rivets that weren't flush. They put it back together and gave it back to the Soviets.

Till Belenlo landed one in Japan, and the CIA found out it was the biggest pile of junk ever to be fitted with wings.
