Believe it or not, i once tried to be a moderate Republican – (1) fiscally conservative; (2) socially progressive; (3) ecologically conscious; and (4) prudently internationalist. But when far-right political gadfly Patrick J. Buchanan delivered that infamous 'An Ode to a Culture War' speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston, TX precisely three decades ago today, i became so profoundly revulsed over the extraordinarily incendiary tenor of that speech that i simply COULD NOT in good conscience bring myself to cast my first-ever presidential ballot for then-President George H. W. Bush. As a matter of fact, i ended up casting my first-ever presidential ballot for then-AR Gov. William J. Clinton.

We need rank choice voting and open state primaries so we have more parties competing. We need more choices other than Democrat and Republican. Why should it be only those two parties? Rank choice voting would also stop the spoiler effect.

I was working class in the 80s and recession hit then. Jobs went scarce and Reaganomics helped the 'well to do' and elite. Then in the early 90s we got NAFTA and as Ross Perot said a "sucking sound was heard" from the loss of manufacturing jobs. However, I totally agree on the media change in 90s that changed the political perspective and elevated the rightwing. I was in my 20s in the 80s and I changed from a Republican about 1986, skipped next election, and voted for Ross Perot and then Bill Clinton in mid 90s. Been a Democrat ever since.

Ruby Ridge, the Montana Freemen, even Waco, were more Libertarian politically but definitely militia oriented. A great book on Ruby Ridge is by Danny Weaver's lawyer, famous Gerry Spence..."From Freedom to Slavery". It's a great book.

I grew up in JIm Crow ... led by Democrats. That shifted with the Civil Rights Act. In a two Party system, the white, christian, conservative nationalists have to go from one Party to another. From the founding, is this country of We, For, By The People for everyone or just for white, christian, conservative nationalists? What we know for certain is that We, For, By The People is about the US of our U-nited S-tates while this group mentality has always been about States Rights so that States can take away Individual Freedoms, Rights, and Equality.
