SCI: Why Sell a Profitable PSU?

The Narendra Modi-led BJP government has announced a big disinvestment plan to sell five public sector units (PSU), including the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI). The PSUs are people’s assets. Privatising them is not in interest of the people. SCI has an excellent track record of profitability since its inception and its annual performance has been rated ‘excellent’ several times. Then why does the government want to sell this entity?
