Nexus 5 vs Nexus 5x Speed Test

We've already done two of these with the Nexus 5x vs the Nexus 6p, both tests run a little bit differently, and now we're pitting the original 2013 Nexus 5 with its successor. Which ones wins out and does that pesky software encryption slow stuff down once again? Check it out and don't forget to check out our other videos and reviews of both the Nexus 5x and Nexus 6p.

Just to clarify this is designed to show stock users what their experience will be going from one device to the other. Since enabling encryption devices requires a FULL data wipe most users likely haven't bothered to do it, meaning that most people migrating from the Nexus 5 will be doing so from an unencrypted phone.

At first Nexus 5X was slightly faster, but it got stuck in Google Photos app, which showed more thumbnails at once on Nexus 5X than on Nexus 5. And I feel like the tester's move was faster on Nexus 5 than Nexus 5X. So I can't judge that Nexus 5X is definitely slower than Nexus 5.

Nexus 5 (2013) is one of the fastest devices till now 2016
I own this device and it's very very smooth and extremely fast and zero lag
Its drawbacks : no microsd no removable battery poor battery and standard camera
But performance wise: better than any high end phones 2016

My wife is using the Nexus 5 & has been our back up phone. It's got f2fs file system running Pure Nexus 7.1.2 w/ elemental x kernel and is unbelievably blazingly fast. I was wondering about this 5x and stumbled across this video. I'm running 6p on similar setup. Thanks for sharing and Nexus 5; what a phone, even in late 2017.

This test is bullshit. He's going much faster on the 5 and going slower on the 5X.

so 1) I guess I'll keep both my n6 and n5, 2) why don't manufacturers just use the nexus 5 2013 hardware for midrange phones and sell them for like 200$? lol

ok so this is, probably, decrypted 5 vs encrypted 5x. we still need a encrypted 5 vs encrypted 5x video!

The Google Photos app had different layouts! The Nexus 5 had lot fewer images to display on start! You can notice that's where the 2 phones made the most difference.

I fell in love with nexus 5 recently and im an iphone user as of current. Now I m afraid marshmallow might be last android update for nxs 5. Should I get it or not? I dont like 5x aesthetics.

I'm glad I still have my nexus 5 from 2013! Still much quicker and faster after 2 years later!

Have both phones got encryption turned on or off? They need to be the same as encryption allows the phones response speed a bit which is what I think is happening with the 5X.

why don't you encrypt the nexus 5 and compare the two?

I'm not gonna downgrade to 5x or 6p! I will stick with my oneplus one with preinstalled CyanogenMod without forced encryption . I love my nexus (opo) CyanogenMod with 3 to 4 years of updates

that's crazy, I've had my nexus 5 for 2 years and think its slow, but seeing this its like damn... i guess I'll stay with my nexus 5 for another year lol

Can you do a multi-tasking test ? ie. open up a bunch of apps on both devices and see which one can keep more open / how fast

This is very suprising to me. I own the original, and thought it would get blown away but the 5X.. Is the encryption really that massive of a slowdown?
