In the year 1883, the world witnessed an astonishing natural event – the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano. This cataclysmic event produced a sound so powerful and deafening that it left an indelible mark on history. Imagine standing 40 miles away from the volcano and having your eardrums ruptured by the sheer force of the noise.

But the astonishing part doesn't end there. The sound generated by Krakatoa was not limited by distance; it traveled far and wide. In fact, it circled the Earth an incredible four times! Even more astonishingly, people located as far as 3,000 miles away could hear this thunderous roar. To put this into perspective, it's like standing in New York and being able to hear a sound all the way from San Francisco.

The Krakatoa eruption of 1883 serves as a remarkable example of the Earth's capacity to produce awe-inspiring natural phenomena and reminds us of the immense power that lies beneath our planet's surface.

Tambora was quite louder but not recorded (1815). People 3400 km away called it 'The day gods clapped their hands' (347 dB estimate)
