This is for the long Navy version of the flag which is twice as long as it is wide. The flagpole version is usually rolled up and stored in a tube.

I was told many years ago that the union flag was called "union jack" when used with the Royal Navy, and "union flag" in other applications.

Hi. Thanks for the demo and also the respect shown for our flag.. Stay safe in these uncertain times. Nigel

Always wondered how National flags were folded. The Union Jack is folded into a triangle just like the American flag. When finished the American flag shows only the blue field with stars.

When was this employed? I spent 8 years RN signals and never saw it folded like this. I even attended military funerals.

🇬🇧From @britishidentity1801 That’s not how you fold the Union Jack properly in general. First off all after you do the third fold, you fold the flag triangularly on the left four times starting upwards, then on the right you fold the flag triangularly until it is folded on both sides.

Since when is this the Royal Navy method? What's the provenance on this?

It would seem that the US 🇺🇸 procedure might have been "inherited" from the RN. Thanks. 😃
