It's really hard to watch this and not compare it to the original mean girls movie. Rachel McAdams as regina george was absolutely iconic! Lindsay Lohan as Cady was so perfect!

Edit: “It is a remake” sure but my point is it's also a musical and the trailer doesn't show that.

“People won't go to see it if they know it's a musical.” that doesn't make sense, you are suggesting people won't see it if they know it’s more than just a remake of a film we already have! Even if that were true why would they make it a musical if they thought people didn't want to see a musical?

Y’all. In the Broadway show, there’s an exchange between Cady and Karen that goes like this:
*Karen:* Did you ever meet a tiger?
*Cady:* No, those are from India.
*Karen:* ‘Cause that’s, like, one of my life goals. To *not* meet a tiger.

I don’t know how this’ll sound, but to me, Karen’s actress actually being Indian will make that joke land SO MUCH BETTER.

Even when it's just a musical interpretation of the original movie, i'm still looking forward to this as it's also going to be the first time for me in hearing the songs so it should be a lot of fun. And also interested to see what Renee Rapp brings as Regina knowing that she reprised her role from the show

Hearing that this was originally supposed to be a streaming movie explains a lot.
Not saying it looks bad. I'm excited to see it and all. But there's been a weird air about the marketing for this movie that just didn't feel right. But once you tell me they pivoted late into production and decided to put this into theatres, I can see why the trailers all feel kinda off.
I suppose the one possible upside is that maybe the overall budget, including marketing, was really low, meaning they'll make money a lot easier. Hopefully.
