I would highly recommend to any other Marxists out there to look into what anthropology has found in the last 50 years or so. It generally is in agreement with the Marxian understanding of class and the state. There are some details that I think Engels got wrong, however he was generally right about how the state emerged.

At first I was hesitant to watch the video due to the different takes anarchists and Marxist-leninist have on the state. I was however incredibly surprised and found nothing to outright disagree with.


I'm aware that a transitionary period is needed, and anarchists have always argued for such, but the difference is that we don't rely on forming a new state during our transition.

With that out of the way, a splendid video and I'll happily dig deeper into the ideological apparatuses of states as they're a topic I only hold basic knowledge in.

I assume that along with the police and the military, the courts would count as a repressive apparatus, eh? A court ruling could certainly hamper a person’s livelihood or a company’s profits (though it wouldn’t be nearly enough to put the company under) or at least legitimize a law that enforces such a class rule.
