“Look up, friend. What do you see?”
“No, you don’t see ‘nothing.’ You are seeing everything. The incomprehensible, the maddening, the invisible, the very fabric of reality and more. You also see things that can only be seen. There is a barrier that no mortal will ever cross, due to the nature of being mortal. The real question is, ‘What *aren’t* you seeing, but it’s still there?’ Whatever answers that question may be watching us right now, or it’s keeping us mortal, protecting us from the rest of its own kind.”

“For although nepenthe has calmed me, I know always that I am an outsider; a stranger in this century and among those who are still men. This I have known ever since I stretched out my fingers to the abomination within that great gilded frame; stretched out my fingers and touched a cold and unyielding surface of polished glass.” — H.P. Lovecraft, ‘The Outsider’

This is the perfect playlist to listen to while your brain is melted and sucked out of your skull so your consciousness floats around the universe without solace for an eternity

The stars were changing. That was the first sign that something was wrong. Night after night, astronomers across the world watched in horror as constellations shifted and faded, replaced by new, impossible shapes that defied all known laws of physics.

At first, the changes were subtle, almost imperceptible. But as the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, it became clear that something was happening on a scale that no one could have imagined.

The world was on the brink of a cosmic catastrophe, and no one knew what to do.

As the stars continued to change, people began to report strange, unsettling visions. They saw things that should not have been there, in places that should not have existed. Strange creatures, with tentacles and wings and gaping maws, lurked in the corners of their vision, waiting to pounce.

Some claimed that they could hear whispers, inhuman voices speaking in ancient tongues that echoed through their minds like thunder.

The world was descending into madness, and there was no escape.

It was then that the cults began to emerge. They came from all walks of life, united by a common belief in the end of the world and the coming of a new age of darkness.

They spoke of the Great Old Ones, ancient and malevolent beings that had slumbered beneath the earth for eons, waiting for the stars to align and the time to be right for their awakening.

They spoke of the Necronomicon, a tome of forbidden knowledge that could grant its reader untold power and insight into the workings of the universe.

And they spoke of the sacrifices that would be needed to awaken the Great Old Ones, of the blood and pain and suffering that would be required to bring about a new era of darkness and chaos.

As the cults grew in number and strength, the world slipped further into madness. Governments fell, and chaos reigned. No one knew who to trust, or where to turn.

And then, one night, it happened. The stars aligned, and the Great Old Ones awakened from their slumber. The skies turned red, and the ground shook beneath the feet of the living.

The cults cheered, as their prophecies were fulfilled. The Great Old Ones had come, and with them came a new era of darkness and terror.

The rest of the world could only watch in horror as the ancient beings unleashed their wrath upon the earth. Cities fell, and millions died. The very fabric of reality was torn asunder, as the Great Old Ones reshaped the universe to their liking.

In the end, only a handful of survivors remained, huddled together in the ruins of what was once a great city. They knew that the end was near, that the Great Old Ones would eventually find them and destroy them, as they had destroyed everything else.

But for now, they waited, clinging to the last shreds of hope and humanity, praying for a miracle that would never come.

For in the end, there was only the darkness, and the madness, and the never-ending terror of the cosmic horror that had consumed the world.

I'd imagine living in a world of cosmic horror being a normal occurrence to be oddly amusing to me. Like 'Oh. My neighbour has been dead for years but fighting off decay with air conditioning.' Just another Tuesday.

Lovecraft has been a huge inspiration to my short stories and I think my published work has a little of him in it. His work absolutely is beautiful to me and am so happy I stumbled across his work many years ago.

When I heard 4 tornado sirens overlapping I was mesmerised. The first track reminds me of that harmony.

My go-to artists for Lovecraftian/Eldritch ambience has always been Cryo Chamber or Iron Cthulhu Apocalypse. It is refreshing to see nobody dipping his toes into the unknown

You literally could not have uploaded this at a better time for me!!! I just bought a game in which you play as a Lovecraftian eldritch horror trapped as a human, and really wanted some background music since it's an interactive fiction and doesn't have any of its own. Thank you so much as always for your playlists! All the love, h'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn <3

Was that fear that we felt, or something else entirely? We tried to convince ourselves that it was just our imagination, that we were being foolish and paranoid, but the entity’s presence was too insidious, too pervasive, to ignore. And so we lived with our anxiety, our constant unease, knowing that the entity was always watching, always waiting, always ready to strike.
