Going through customs is a much more smoother process when you have a passport. I understand some people can not get one maybe for legal reasons, but if you can afford to get one, get one! 😊

Great update. I’m surprised you do not need a passport to cruise. We keep ours in ships safe, but keep a copy on us when in port including ID.
Of course big profits for RCL, its pay for play or eat on those mega ships. Great business model.

Hi I almost didn't get back on my ship because I didn't have my passport when I visited St Thomas USVI. I returning to the Carnival Vista and USCustoms agent asked me for my passport. It was on the ship. Since it was a closed loop cruise from Port Canavaral I was told I really did not need it. After a few tense words and support from my sister who vouched that i was from the Carnival Vista I was allowed to get through the gate and back to the ship. Lesson learned bring your passport with you.

Passport requirement is coming. Its safer to just get a passport. You are going to need it if you miss the ship at a foreign port to get back home. Therefore, its better to be safe than to be sorry. Why wait until its mandated.. its good for TEN years?? Come on people.

All that's great but it does not get you home easily when you are stranding in a foreign country. Me personally would not go anywhere out of the US without mine.

If someone has any thoughts that they may cruise more than once or twice then get a passport. It’s so much easier than dealing with the birth certificate. We got passports before our very first cruise and have since used it over and over. I don’t know what the pushback is for some people who cruise.

Good morning Doug! We use passports, easier. I think the birth certificate is to identify which country you are from and not so much for the name. The government issued ID gives your name and photo. Thanks for the updates and have a great day.

Hi Doug! Just to let you know, the Aranui 5 is misspelled in the video description as the Are-new-ee 5. I also have been told that Aranui 5 might technically be a combined cargo/passenger liner since it transports both goods and people around French Polynesia. However, I do not know this for sure.
