3x3 Municipality of Fyli Streetball was a FIBA 3x3 Endorsed event organized in Ano Liosia Square, from Fyli area, Athens, by Municipality of Fyli and Sport Arena Streetball, a global 3x3 basketball promoter, member of FIBA 3x3 Advisory Board.
3x3 basketball is the most popular urban team sport, with an estimated number of more than 250.000.000 players worldwide, according to a study conducted by IOC. This discipline was included this year in the Olympic Games schedule and will be featured for the first time at the Tokyo 2020 edition.
The tournament was an instant success, with a total of 74 registered teams in just few days and more than 250 players taking the court in both days of the competition.
Each player received the participation kit, comprising of the official t-shirt of the competition, water and Pepsi bottles.
In addition, spectators had plenty to enjoy on and off the court. They watched the spectacular plays, they were involved in dedicated contests, listen music and met their friends.
Both players and spectators had the chance to meet and greet special guests Kostas Tsartsaris, the legendary Panathinaikos player and longtime basketball journalist Vasilis Skountis.
The event was hosted by Greek TV star Elena Kremlidou.
All the players received points in the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings and they will count both in the individual ranking but also for the Nations Ranking which can offer Greece the chance to qualify for Europe and World Cups in the future years.
The winners of Open categories, both men and women, will travel to Belgrade to watch the 2018 Euroleague Final, while the winners of U18 Boys and all the other teams in top 3 places received prizes offered by the tournament’s partners: Fitbit, Pepsi and Electroholics.
