Nigel Farage might have been a thorn in the Conservatives side for many years now, but given the trajectory of the party it's not impossible to imagine Farage at the helm... So let's unpack why Nigel Farage could actually become the next Tory leader

UK´s politics is trying real hard to top the US in terms of second hand embarrassment.

So many people are turning against Brexit that this would ensure the Tories remain out of government for years to come. Bring it on.

It's not entirely correct to say he didn't hold an office of power. He was a prominent leader in the UK contingent at the EU, making many speeches and voting on many issues over the years. If one argues that the European Parliament is a body of political substance, then one has to concede that being an MEP is an office of some substance in line with that, in some way equivalent to an MP.

During Donald Trumps second election Rally, Nigel Farage stood shoulder to shoulder with him on the platform, joining in with the cheering crowd. "You get what you wish for"

The Conservative party after the next election may only have 100 - 120 MPs and it depends whether the moderates or the headbangers are those on the dole. The elected leader is first chosen by the parliamentary party and only the top two contestants are offered for the membership to choose a leader. There may be a lot of "Portillo" moments on election night, it just depends on how many of the headbangers survive.

It does make sense, there is no clear leadership potential in the Conservative Party.

Farage is a grifter who is too smart to put himself into a position of power. Right now he can claim Brexit is only going badly because he's not in charge. He couldn't do this as Tory leader (he's also completely unelectable)

It's one thing to lose an election. It's another thing to invite electoral oblivion.

Boris' success was magnified due the disarray of the Labour party at that time.

It makes full sense. The Tories need to hit rock bottom and get their flirtation with the far right out of their system before they can be resurrected. Farage could be the nail in the coffin for this populist Conservative party.

He might be the first Tory leader to introduce proportional representation should that happen
