It’s kinda hilarious that everyone is dressed like a fantasy characters and meanwhile Matt is there with a cardigan, jeans and a t-shirt.

If he exists in game, we can kill him in game. (Only in game tho, love you Matt)

In my last campaign, I was the only one at our table to notice Matt in the tavern so I jokingly had my Paladin pretend to know Matt Mercer and all of his “plays”. My DM and I had a fun several minute conversation in character as we basically established Mercer’s professional life in Waterdeep. At the end of the campaign, my Paladin brought his kid to a performance play, “Bells Hells.”

Mercer also helped make Dragon Heist's narrative so it makes sense they'd reference him in that book in particular

Remember that the creators of DnD are canonically students of elminster

Technically he's in Exandria as well. The framing device for Grog's One-shot was that Grog learned how to play "Bunions and Flagons" from watching him run a game in a tavern.

Mordenkainen is from Oerth (the Greyhawk setting). Same for Bigby, Tenser, Otiluke, Otto, Drawmij, Leomund, and most of the other spells with names in them. He has visited Faerun and is friends with Elminster because of multiverse shenanigans, but he's not from there.

Imagine Wizards of the coast trying to copy write his name.

You did not need to gut-punch me at the end with the Wafflecrew.

The real surprise is they gave Mordenkainen his hair back

I guess I can finally loot Matt's dnd notes and find out the season 1 lore the party missed. if only... Dude's amazing at story telling and I've always wondered about those extra bits.

No no, that's obviously just a typo. That's Matthew *the* Mercer. Waterdeep's premier importer of fine fabrics. 😂

His relationship with D&D still stellar, they're even selling a Darrington Press book at DDB.

"2018 sure was a hell of a long time ago.", flashes the Waffle crew. Ouch.

I'm pretty sure Matt Mercer wrote part of the Dragon Heist module.

No matter what their relationship is now, its a neat Easter egg for we fans of the man. Also an excuse for DMs to do a Mercer impression from their favorite work of his.

Matt is a wizard with only two spells: rocks fall, can kill any party of adventures under level 10, or summon four elemental ancient dragons, and kill what whatever is vulnerable to four ancient dragons.

That last shot of Strix, Diath and Evelyn... 😢

Oh to go back in time and just re-experience 2018 in a wiser state of mind, even the chaos at the time would seem kinder.

That's just a Mercer that was Isekai'd from a parallel dimension
