Jonathan Butler honoured

South African jazz icon Jonathan Butler has described receiving an honorary doctorate as an “incredible, epic moment in his life” Stellenbosch University kicked off March graduation week by bestowing the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on Butler, for his contribution to arts and culture. As a capetonian I'm very proud of him, I met him as a 13yr old in a elsies river night club called Dolly Do, ever since that day we became personal friends, salute my brother you deserve it.

This man made no excuses up to today. He made an effort, using his self belief and the will to succeed, to be where he is today. No government handouts, no entitlement, no riding on his colour or being politically disadvantaged only pure resilience and faith in God. Well done.
