Are the Tories to Blame for the Cost of Living Crisis?

While inflation and energy prices have been a global issue, the UK seems particularly badly affected by the cost of living crisis. So why is this? Is it simply bad luck on the UK's part? Or are successive Conservative governments to blame for all of this?

Blame them directly, indirectly or not all. They never let a crisis go to waste; always using it as an excuse to dismantle public services while helping out their mates.

After 11 years of austerity I don't think there is anyone else to blame

You failed to mention the Tory’s unwillingness to place a genuine windfall tax on the billions of “excess” profits that energy companies are creaming in. Other countries have done this. The Tory’s have done nothing! France also took over EDF, making it publicly owned, effectively cutting out excess profits, passing them on to French customers. Meanwhile EDF in the U.K. are still raking in those profits, all funded by the U.K. tax payer. Yes!! we’re paying for French customers energy!!

A point you failed to mention is that if wages rise in line with, or even above, inflation, then inflation is not really noticed. But the Tories have inflicted real-term wage cuts for the public sector for the past 13 years - so inflation bites!

this needs to be a video of 99% black screen, 1% ben just saying "yes" and then the nebula ad.

When you try so hard to not be ‘political’ that you end up being biased towards protecting the incompetent tories, you missed out so many important factors the tories are directly and solely responsible for

Could it be that deregulation and privatization of energy, coupled with the government-sanctioned demonisation of renewables, hasn't been that great for ordinary people?

You start by stating the crisis is based on 2 factures, conveniently avoiding 12 years of austerity, lack of investment, privatisation, corruption and of course, Brexit.

I don't blame the captain for all storms, I blame them for steering towards the rocks. Also, for drilling holes in the boat.

Is there a numerical error at 1:10 where either Germany's place should be higher, or its percentage should be lower?

They've been in government since 2010. They are entirely responsible.

Who served in trusted cabinet positions under 4 Conservative PM's
Who was undersecretary for education - and who's reforms were criticized as unworkable
Who was Environment secretary - Who lifted the band on Bee killing pesticides
Who was Justice Secretary - Who caused the Justice Minister to resign ....
Who was Secretary to the Treasury who exhausted her civil servants with pointless questions
Who was international Trade Secretary who violated court orders on trade, and struck extremely poor trade deals
Who was Foreign Secretary who didn't know basic geography, and incompetently gave easy scores to Russia over the invasion of Ukraine ...
Twice ran for Conservative Leader
Who closed the last UK Gas storage
Who Was PM when she ruined the UK Economy .. Liz Truss ...

I see a pattern here

I think that this issue is extremely complex but you did not mention that Prime Minister David Cameron, made cuts to a number of subsidy programs for energy-efficiency measures, including insulation. The most significant of these cuts were to the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) program, both of which provided financial assistance to homeowners to make energy-efficient improvements to their homes.
This is a massive oversight in this video and not something that should have been missed

When you privatize a utility, you're privatizing the profits, and collectivizing the losses (ie government bailouts paid for by the taxpayer to bail out a company that previously had raked in massive profits).
