Green Acres Classic TV Goofs and Trivia

In this video, we take a look at goofs from the classic TV series Green Acres starring Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, along with some fun trivia facts. See lots of continuity errors, a line blooper, car goofs where their car's interior changes color from one scene to the next.

I go over some of the old tricks used on classic television series such as the practice of taking out the windshield of an automobile to prevent glare and reflection into the camera. I show instances of phony backdrops and some fun guest star appearances like Hal Smith from the Andy Griffith Show.

See props disappear and appear right before your eyes as if by magic. I look at how the Beverly Hillbillies was both just a TV series on Green Acres as well as a set of characters that existed in the same universe.

Green Acres was part of the Hooterville universe which existed in the same town as the cast of Petticoat Junction. Many of the stars of that show overlapped into Green Acres such as Sam Drucker played by Frank Cady. The series also starred Tom Lester as Eb Dawson, Alvy Moore as Hank Kimball, Hank Patterson as Fred Ziffel, and Pat Buttram as Mr. Haney. I also, take a look at a couple of guest spots Green Acres stars did on other shows like Knight Rider, the Munsters, and the Outer Limits.

Awesome stuff!! I never noticed ANY of those bloopers before - and I've been watching this show since the first time it aired in the '60s! Great work!

Thank you for pointing out these bloopers! It was a wonderful show and they don't detract from my enjoyment of it in any way.

Being the baby boomer than I am, I remember growing up with this show, and it was just the silliest thing you ever want to watch.
So with all the goofs on sets in it and with the bad😅 editing & the cheap special effects, If you wanna call it that, it was awesome.

I am sure most every series had their share of "bloopers" in them. But as a viewer, we merely watched for the funny entertainment value... Thumbs Up!

Great video!
Funny thing is that in RL, Eddie Albert grew his own produce on his Pacific Palisades estate long before (and after) 'Green Acres' production!
Eva Gabor cheerfully admitted that she shared her iconic character Lisa's complete inability to cook. Once Eddie Albert asked her to stop wearing feathered clothes on the show so as not to encourage viewers to want to imitate her wardrobe choices to keep birds from becoming endangered then asked Miss Gabor where did she think the feathers in her clothes had come from and her reply was 'from PILLOWS!'
Of course, the biggest irony of the show was that while Oliver sought to embrace 'farm living' he was continually frustrated by every aspect of it and the Hooterville crowd at best felt sorry for him while Lisa constantly claimed to want to return to New York but she happily embraced the illogical logic of the place and everyone in Hooterville adored her because she treated them like visiting dignitaries instead of patronizing them like Oliver did.

An interesting footnote @ 5:33 Economy Flight To Washington, the gentleman sitting at the counter with Arnold is none other than Foster Brooks.

Thanks for this video! I have the whole series on DVD and run an episode each Sunday night. I have noticed some, but not all, of these goofs. FYI, seeing the edge of the backdrop is not really a goof, but it’s a result of the technical crew not realizing, in the 1960s, that the shape of our TV screens would change to be more like the shape movie screens were. Each camera viewfinder had two outlines in it, one showing the “safe” zone for the 4:3 tv screens of the time, the other showing the “safe” zone for the movie screens (and current TV screens). The camera operator only had to make sure that nothing unwanted showed up within the borders of the safe zone for the tv screens, but it didn’t matter —then— if unwanted visuals showed up in the movie screen safe zone. But with the change in the shape of our tv screens, it matters now. But they didn’t think about that back then.

I have always loved this show. I was still watching it to this day, but MeTv took it off. What was so funny to me is nobody had any sense except Arnold the pig. 😂😂😂

Real entertainment back then. I only saw them in reruns, but I loved and miss them all!

This video was great. I did not like this show growing up, the same for many others, but now that im older, i can't get enough of those old shows that i didn't watch back then, lol.
Thanks for sharing those bloopers and mistakes.
I had heard somewhere a few years ago that this show used 6 pigs to play Arnold.
Take care.

I didn't care for this show as a kid, but a few years ago started watching it and realized how insane this show is. It's one of those shows where you never know what's going to happen.

Couple things that have always got my attention. Is on the opening. Oliver is ridding up to the farm on the tractor, a more modern tractor with rubber wheels and all but all through the series he has a much older tractor always with steel wheels.
And in the same opening scene as he's ridding up on the tractor, he is going very slow on very flat ground yet he is bouncing up and down like he is cross rutting a field that has been plowed.
