Henry I (c. 1068 – 1 December 1135), also known as Henry Beauclerc, was King of England from 1100 to his death in 1135. He was the fourth son of William the Conqueror and was educated in Latin and the liberal arts. On William's death in 1087, Henry's elder brothers Robert Curthose and William Rufus inherited Normandy and England, respectively, but Henry was left landless. He purchased the County of Cotentin in western Normandy from Robert, but his brothers deposed him in 1091. He gradually rebuilt his power base in the Cotentin and allied himself with William against Robert.

'William Adelin was killed in a boat accident !' Well plenty depth there then!. Henry 1 heir apparent William and most of Henrys immediate family including several of his illegitimate children and a host of his wealthy nobles perished in the White Ship disaster leading to the subsequent war between his daughter Matilda and his nephew Stephen of Blois who took the throne after Henry. The ramifications caused by the White Ship disaster were huge historically .

A family member doing some family research tells me that I am distantly related to Henry via one of his many extramarital flings!

He doesn't seem very excited to teach this, but that's probably because his students don't really care and are just there for the points.. Shame that this is the treatment History is getting these days
