We ask our Global head of Consumer Insights, Damian Thompson: "What are the challenges that the new localism poses for brands?"

As concerns localism, I have found that the traditional writers on such things, even the distributism of Chesterton, Belloc, and Schumacher, saw these even before the explosion of globalism and corporate hegemony took place. But even more than this, I think that the strategy of individuals taking back their communities, opposing the granting of business licenses to even function in their communities, and even getting local internet services involved to promote search engine algorithms that search local businesses and services first (something like a Billy's amazon) and then on to more regional, national, and then global communities. After all, we all walk outside of our houses and are in the spaces we are. We are not magically teleported to Beijing or Rio. Rather, I think our internet experience should mirror our physically embodied one.

Thanks for the video. I believe that Localism is the only solution to get our power back from the government. Conscious Consumerism & Conscious Capitalism = Localism. The biggest threat to Amazon is not another competing platform but the idea that people dont need most of the stuff we buy from them. Localism is the future. It is the ONLY solution to empowering people.
