Ukraine's Zelenskiy Meets Israel's Netanyahu on Sidelines of UNGA

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

Israel has delivered much humanitarian aid to Ukraine but it has rejected pleas to provide arms or impose sanctions against Russia or its oligarchs, some of whom have strong ties to Israel. The Israeli public has been largely supportive of Ukraine since the conflict began, but Israel’s government has been much more cautious.

The country has walked a tightrope between assisting Ukraine and avoiding friction with Russia, with which it has strategic regional interests.
