Quake II is a 1997 first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. It is the second installment of the Quake series, following Quake.[8] The game's storyline is continued in its expansions and Quake 4.

Quake II is a first-person shooter, in which the player shoots enemies from the perspective of the main character. The gameplay is very similar to that featured in Quake, in terms of movement and controls, although the player's movement speed has been slowed down, and the player now has the ability to crouch. The game retains four of the eight weapons from Quake (the Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, and Rocket Launcher), although they have been redesigned visually and made to function in slightly different ways. The remainder of Quake's eight weapons (the Axe, Nailgun, Super Nailgun, and Thunderbolt) are not present in Quake II. The six new weapons are the Blaster, Machine Gun, Chain Gun, Hyperblaster, Railgun, and BFG10K. The Quad Damage power up from Quake is present in Quake II, and new power-ups include the Ammo Pack, Invulnerability, Bandolier, Enviro-Suit, Rebreather, and Silencer.

For best experience, use Mouse + Keyboard, disable texture smoothing, don't use double barrel shotgun at long range, do use the compass when at a loss as to where to go next.

They added a whole area to the intro section of the first level!! 6:21 you can see it through the open windows and even run around in it if you jump down or use the water. I hope there are more added areas like that through out the game!

I used to think that kmQuake2 (engine) + "Hell Is Only For Heroes" (mission pack) was the best Quake 2 ever made. Now, this official Quake2 Remaster + "Call of the Machine" looks even better! And I should notice that the atmosphere of the "Call of the Machine" reminds me exactly the "Hell Is Only For Heroes", so the latter is still highly recommended!

Yay Quake 2 got a remaster! Just thinking, i wonder if Quake 3 will get a remaster too? I think this one will bring back Quake again! People dont realize how huge that game was!

Man, I was thinking: Why hasn't Bethesda released this game for Xbox? They put Quake 1 on the store, but they haven't put Quake 2 on it. Now I'm really happy about this.

I read BItD that there was no opening cinematic, and that iD didn't really want on. Paul Steed (IIR) disagreed and did it over a weekend just before release.
This was from when the game was new (I was >30), so details are vague.
I'm so glad he did it.

Personally, i would prefer the computer-like interface panel readout for mission objectives, but with transparency and an auto-map feature. The improvements over the original are nice, but they're not earth shattering. Varied sound effects of the characters when getting punched, shot, and the player's pain and jumping would have added more realism.
