He then proceeded to hold the witness in contempt, then held a secret ex parte meeting with the sworn witness, law enforcement, and the prosecution, without notifying the defense. This eventually led to his forced recusal.

The hindsight on this is they absolutely knew he wanted to take the 5th. Thry already had rhe immunity agreement written and signed. They had exchanges eith his lawyer in email saying he was going to take the 5th. They still put him on the stand.
