Pro Tools Fundamentals: Submixes

Two ways to create a submix: aux input and routing folder.
Quick way to have Pro Tools create a bus to an aux input.

So is that Routing Folder like creating a Bus out? Can the routing folder be treated like a Bus meaning can you add FX and other routing options to it? What if i wanted to have 3 toms as its own sub mix then go into the routing folder, can that be done too?
