Inspired by true events, this stylized borderline horror film explores cycles of domestic abuse from 2 polar perspectives. In a rough neighborhood in San Francisco, an empathetic reporter helps a still traumatized “Tatiana” (23) speak out. Through narrative and dark flashbacks, we discover the events that led to her abduction into the sex trafficking trade (starting at just 12 years old), as well as her escape. “Tag You’re It” simultaneously follows Amy, a wealthy married stay at home mom in an upscale Naples condominium. As Amy watches the news special and glimpses of her own life unfold, we realize like Tatiana, Amy and her daughter are also trapped in a type of modern day prison. Blending fact with fiction, the two actresses playing Tatiana and the news reporter, Vanessa Russell and Jenn Alvarez, are both real life survivors of similar childhood abuse. In 2011, Russell founded Love Never Fails, a non profit committed to restoring, educating, and protecting victims of human trafficking and their communities. Jenn leads hundreds of workshops at Love Never Fails and also coaches women who have been abused, helping them heal and prosper. “I made it out of the fire pit.” she says “Now my own healing comes from jumping back into it and pulling other women out.” “Tag You’re It” also stars David Garza Sr. and professional actress Lexi Bacca, Lexi started acting in commercials when she was a child and has been in over 50 films, television shows, or theatrical productions,‘starring in many of them The script was written by Georgia Menides who also wrote the cult teen film, Still Green, shot in Naples and Bonita Springs. The US State Department says there are over 27 million victims of sex trafficking in the country at any given time. At the same time, women of all ages, races and income brackets are forced to struggle and hide the truth about abuse they feel they have no choice but to endure. Tag’s creator, Anna Honorata, a victim herself for 16 years, is using this film to give these women (and men ) a voice. “I use film to express what I’m thinking about.” says Anna. I finally decided to speak out about my own story, through this lens. And I’ve met so many women who go through this and are afraid to talk about it. I decided to create a movie to help people realize that they aren’t alone. I want this movie to open their mouths. “
Anna Honorata and Jenn Alvarez plan to expand the project with stories that shed light on not just the victims, but the criminals themselves, as these men and woman also began as hurt children. As the film’s tag line asks, “Once a cycle starts, how do you break it?” “Tag You’re it” aims to help break the cycle.
