After Jeremy moved earnhardt and won the race Dale keyed the mic and told richard Childress to not say anything to mayfield, I guess Jeremy earned his respect

I met Jeremy 2 months after that Pocono win at 12 years old down here in FL 20 mins west of Daytona international speedway. He and a few other drivers were singing autographs at our local grocery store and I handed Jeremy a page from a magazine that showed him giving the bumper to Earnhardt. I said Mr Mayfield can you sign this please he said hell yeah of course thanks for coming out I said that was one hell of a win man he laughed and after signing his name he wrote one hell of a win man on that picture.

I find very telling how Jeremy speaks of Dale Earnhardt as if he's still alive. As if he's still here. I felt that.

Dale is the man for having him on. We all needed to hear and see this for piece of mind if nothing else.

Loved being able to hear this story! I was watching that race as a huge Earnhardt fan. I wanted him to get that win and I was pissed. After about an hour, I realized that was pretty effing cool given how many times we saw Dale on the other side of it. And he didn't try to just wreck him. It was ballsy and he deserved to get a race win for it. And if he hadn't won, I'm guessing the big guy would've been way less understanding. I can only imagine how pissed-off he was in the moment. Makes me laugh to think about. Being a Dale Earnhardt fan was an amazing ride. That said, Jeremy Mayfield has a golden moment in big-time racing that no one can ever take from him.

That 12 car was a beautiful paint job too. Let's not forget that, too.

As always, the whole podcast needs to be on the tube. Audio is good but nothings beats the face expressions.

I remember well❤️😀 Dale was SO mad. He couldn't believe Jeremy had the guts to bump him. So glad that Dale hugged him before the race that awful day.❤️ He even made a sign to "vote Jeremy off the island" as in Survivor. Great races back then. I miss those days.

That was actually the first race I ever attended with my then girlfriend now wife! We worked with somebody who knew somebody who helped us get pit passes through Steve Grissom's team. And we enjoyed all the perks of following Dale's car through inspection and hanging out in Dale's pit all day! We even helped cover the toolboxes and such when it started raining in one turn. We were so pissed when Jeremy knocked Dale out of the way but it's kind of cool to hear the story behind it after all these years. We weren't allowed to have alcohol in the pits during the race but after we left and we're sitting in traffic in the parking lot folks kept giving us beers and we were pretty lit by the time we finally left the parking lot.
When we got home I watched the race and saw myself taking pictures of Dale getting his pit stops! I screamed to my wife "I'm on TV!!!"😁 The Square D car had issues and left so their pit was empty and that is where I stood!
Those were fond memories of our trip from Ohio to Pocono!!!
Now we live next door to Mooresville NC!!!🏁

This was the first time ever going to a nascar race. Flew from Montana to see it. If I remember correctly it got rained out Sunday. We made the best off it by sitting in the rain drinking boiler makes with my new Canadian friends. We were some of the last people to stumble out of there that rainy night.

Mayfield was my guy, went to many races between 2000 and 2010…. A lot of great memories for me rooting for him…. Listened to him on the radio during all of those races…. Thank you, Jeremy for all of the great memories…. The most exciting race for me was the 2003 Dover race whenever he finished second to Ryan Newman…. I knew during that entire race that he had the car to beat, just did not work out in the end… but, being there was great!!!! Like I said, thank you for all of the memories,

great interview and glad you had him on. Will never know all the answers but one thing is certain he needs AD medicine and I don't doubt he took meds to calm down. Fast talking, sentence structure runs on and he has a quick ticker. After listening to him I believe he was screwed, some of it was deserved but politics in NASCAR is nothing new !!

Wow it's amazing, that after 22 years of actually being at that race and remembering that day multiple times in my life of how upset we were, coming full circle and hearing Jeremy talk about it this way is incredible. Forever a memory.

Dale was flipping Jeremy off telling him he was number one, cause on that day, Dale was number 2. Great race and a great story.
