When you have no tape you can use a rope, put the rope from Side to Side and make a knot on the end of the object you want to fit

So true. Although for bigger measurements like these I do use tape. But anything like clothes or pants especially, I use my hands. It's more reliable too since sizes aren't always the same with different brands.
