On February 28, 2022, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the second report in the Sixth Assessment (AR6) cycle. The Working Group II (WGII) Report, Impact, Adaptation, and Vulnerabilities lays out “the latest evidence on how past and future changes to Earth’s climate system impact life on our planet,” as well as the system capacities and limits for equitable and sustainable adaptation.

This panel discussion highlights the key takeaways from the IPCC report for the security community—connecting the dots between the science and the concrete actions security actors will need to take to prepare for the effects of climate change. Panelists include:

Katharine Mach, Lead Author, Working Group II Report, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; Associate Professor at the University of Miami
Halvard Buhaug, Lead Author, Working Group II Report, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; Research Professor, Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO)
Rod Schoonover, Head, Ecological Security Program, The Council on Strategic Risks
Brigitte Hugh (Moderator), Program Assistant, The Center for Climate and Security
