it seems to me that Europe is more dependent now on the USA than before the EU. Wasn't the purpose of the EU to be less dependent? From how I see it, the same countries that don't pull their weight in NATO are the same countries that don't pull their weight in the EU. I'm an American and I support dissolving NATO, because I see NATO heading in the wrong direction.

Always these exaggerations. I am German and we were not shocked, but had expected that a decision would be made on the evening of the US election, as a meeting of the German government was scheduled. The constitution has a clear provision for such situations and this is not the first time that something like this has happened in German post-war politics.
