Poor Unfortunate Theater: Crash Course Theater #48

Poor Theater and Theater of the Oppressed were two sort of concurrent movements that shared some of the same aims. Jerzy Grotowski's Poor Theater eschewed the use of lighting, props, costumes, makeup, and many of the other trappings of "rich" theater. Augusto Boal's Theater of the Oppressed in Brazil challenged the ideas of how plays were written and performed, and blurred the lines between actors and audiences.

I was thinking TODAY about how much I miss Mike Rugnetta in my feed. Clicked on this series without knowing it was him.

Super excited about the next episode. As a note, Wole Soyinka is pronounced: Wall-ayy Shoyyy-inka. He’s actually a family friend!:) super psyched.

I must applaud Mike for pronunciation of Polish names. Very good indeed.
Also, I got immensely and inexplicably excited when I heard Mike saying name of my little hometown lol lol.

Theater of The Opressed sounds like Social Justice D&D! The actors play NPCs, the audience is the PCs and the joker is the DM.

Hey Crash Course

I was wondering if you guys could maybe start a series on music theory. It would be nice to have for musicians wanting to improve their work. It could cover topics such as chord progression, scales, Minor/Major...etc.

If you read this comment please consider, and thanks for taking the time to read it. Keep up the good work.

your videos are very helpful. please suggest books on the topic as well. that will certainly be a good move to make the video more worth full to watch. i hope you don't mind my suggestion.

I'll admit, most of the theater movements that have been covered in this series really haven't interested me all that much. However, the idea of forum theater has definitely piqued my interest. It seems like such an enlivening concept.

Theater of the Oppressed needs to return to Brazil because fascism has also returned to the country.

Theater of the Oppressed sounds like behavioral therapy

There is no happy medium. There is only fog and injustices. And a light peppering of intellectuals.

I felt Badal Sirkar's Third Theatre movement also deserved a mention.
