Visit Pompei & Vesuvius in 1 Day | Naples travel guide

Is it crazy to visit the Pompeii Ruins AND to hike Mount Vesuvius on the same day?

Fortunately we vlogged about it so you can judge for yourself.

We visited the Pompeii Archeological Site and hiked the Vesuvio while staying in Naples for a weekend.
And it was incredible!

Pompeii is one of the most important archeological sites in the world.
Being close to Napoli and easy to reach by public transportation, it is an absolute must see when travelling to Naples.

The town of Pompei is also very cute, full of pastries, restaurants and souvenir shops. Its main attraction are of course the ruins of Pompeii. Their entrance is a 5 minute walk from the train station.

The archeological site of Pompeii is enormous so you need to be really determined in order to visit everything. We were fascinated by everything we saw, but after exploring it for 2/3 hours, our attention span lowered and we couldn’t enjoy it as much as we did at first. Our suggestion is to spend around 4 hours walking around, with a lunch or snack pause in between. This way you’ll be able to see and enjoy a good portion of the site, without feeling overwhelmed and overtire.

We used the audioguide to learn more about the ruins. You get a map and every single villa, building or other finding has a number that you can digit on the audioguide. At the entrance of the site, however, you can also hire a private guide or adhere to a group that is forming for a guided tour.

After visiting the Pompei Ruins, we headed to the Volcano that produced this archeological site with its eruption. Mount Vesuvius is a lush mountain where you can hike safely… for now! To reach the summit of the crater, you need to book your ticket online and pay a small fee. This hike trail is called Sentiero del Gran Cono and takes around 50 minutes total.
You can also buy the Gran Cono del Vesuvio ticket from a private party that also sells bus tickets to the Volcano.

We definitely recommend this experience when you are in Naples. There are lots of things you can do around Naples, but this is a once in a lifetime experience that we couldn’t miss.
