We have 10 fingers. The babylonians also counted with their fingers, but rather than each finger being a digit, they used their thumb to counter finger segments, and we have 4 fingers with 3 segments each for a total of 12 segments.

Once 12 us reached 1 finger is out up on the other hand, and we have 5 fingers on the other than so thats a total of 60.

So for ancient times the base 60 system is easier to divide, in half, in thirds, in fourths, in 5ths, in 6ths, 10ths, 12ths, 15ths...
