“Carrying on with a married man, as if her home were in a tree” - one of my favourite lines in the whole thing!

"What did she expect carrying on with a married man as if her home was in a tree."

I had forgotten this scene where Violet is in the stairwell as Rose & Edith talk. Priceless!

You see that is just the problem. Everyone acts shocked and scolds her, but no one sits down and talks to her and teaches her about how to meet, date, and choose men. Matthew of all people would be so helpful in discussing with her the varying motives of men and how to identify them and how to handle herself socially in difficult situations. She needs friendship and guidance and information, as well as a good scolding!

"One day you'll be older and out of our power."

"But not yet."
Nothing gets past the Dowager Countess. Absolutely nothing.

Rose was such a peach when she lived at Downton that I forgot she was a bit of a brat in the beginning… I blame Susan!

Rosamund Painswicke has never been the brightest crayon in the box. Remember her disastrous advice to Mary about putting Matthew off, and the fortune hunting cad (who was banging her maid) that Rosamund almost married. She has exquisite taste in clothes and interior decorating, but that's about it.

My new follow-up for places I turn down, "oh no, no. It's too hot and dusty."

I thought Rose was annoying in her first appearance, but she grew on me.

Not realizing why she shouldn't date a married man= Bad

Not realizing why she "shouldn't" date Atticus = Good

That scene of her at the top of the stairs suddenly reminded me of the older Wendy in the movie "Hook"! How bizarre.😅 I do feel bad for Rose. A steady hand without the dramatics would have worked wonders. But of course it all worked out in the end.

The Dowager and Patsy Stone are my spirit animals. Thank you Britain.

Lady Flintshire gleefully wrote to the Dowager Countess about rumors of Lady Mary's indiscretion with Kemal Pamuk. The Dowager Countess could easily returned the favor by scandalizing Lady Flintshire with news of Lady Rose's fling with a married man . . .

Although I'm a rich man I despise this type of lifestyle, my children knows the house rules, they can do whatever they want but whatever they do there's always consequences to any bad and good thing you do, that's what my children are taught, and also before they want to do something first think before you just do, that's why we have brains, to live is to think

It wasnt that long ago that there were separate dorms for girls and boys. Each had a den-mother and a den-father who acted as supervisor of behavior, morals, curfews, etc...and many times acted as eyes and ears for the parents because in many ways you were not considered an adult without need of a chaperone until married. Yes the boomers complained they were being treated like children and they had the birth control pill and feminism but I look at life today and I have to be honest...having adults, parents, aunts/uncles, grandparents all taking an interest in your well being...it seems like we lost something...for that small loss of freedom the world was much nicer and much more manageable...today trying to navigate the world alone is a minefield
