bro this scene always KILLS me, the highway man abruptly interrupting, wirt’s “ok good to know” and then his confusion when the highway man starts to sing, the animation, greg nonchalantly stealing food omg i ADORE IT

I like how they’re so obsessed with conforming to archetypes that they’ll even cheer on the negative ones.

So in the opening, the villagers inside the tavern are represented by dolls. That, combined with how rigidly they stick to their roles, and how bluntly (impatiently) the highwayman interrupts so he can perform his song, reminds me of how small children play and explore the concept of adulthood together.

I wonder how much of that was intentional, and if it ties into the overarching themes of innocence and growing up?

I really love the visual gag with the highwayman first being seen in the window while wirt and greg arrive, then in the background and finally just straight up as the one interrupting the convo for his song-my guy just wants people to pay attention lmao

I love that he's next to the lady first, and the next time we see him he's on stage. He goes, "I'm the highwayman, " and when Wirt keeps talking he's like: "No, it's my time to shine, " and just starts singing. Such a theater kid, lol.

I just realized he is the highway man and his gimmick is stealing so when he interrupts Wirt he is stealing the spotlight from him.
