Ahh I'm training for a half ironman and only have pool experience+snorkeling in Hawaii w/ fins. I can't find OWS around my area specially not until the end of spring. Hope I can find some ASAP!

In open water my body would float even more because if it's sea then it would be salty water.

Doing flip turns creates a hypoxic situation, physiologically speaking, especially in short course (25m). So in this respect, in good conditions (relatively warm clear water and light or no wind) open water swimming is easier - one can maintain a lower heart rate. This is especially true in subtropical (80F) ocean waters where the greater density of salt water gives swimmers increased buoyancy.
